Recently opened In-N-Out Burger restaurants, the soon-to-open Meow Wolf and Pueblo’s public safety departments are among the most notable settings in Colorado’s latest COVID-19 outbreak report, released by state health officials Wednesday.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment considers an outbreak to be two or more cases linked to the same location or event. Outbreaks are deemed to be active until four weeks have passed with no new cases.
The Aurora In-N-Out outbreak was declared Dec. 17, with 62 staff members now confirmed to have tested positive for the virus. The state confirmed the Colorado Springs location’s outbreak on Dec. 6 and there have been 83 positive employee cases.
The total number of employee COVID-19 cases between the two In-N-Out locations grew to 145 from 122 over the last week, with most of the growth coming at the Aurora restaurant.
Both In-N-Out restaurants remain open. State health officials generally do not require restaurants or other retail locations with outbreaks to close. Each can now offer some indoor dining as the state has loosened coronavirus restrictions. No customer cases have been identified at either location. The buzz about each location opening has remained as long lines persist.
Meow Wolf, an immersive art experience set to open later this year just west of downtown, has had 15 staff members test positive since an outbreak began on Nov. 19.
The city of Pueblo has active outbreaks with its police force, fire department and public transit system. There have been 23 positive cases between all of those public service entities.
