THURSDAY, AUGUST 7, 2025

Over the years, I’ve sat in medical exam rooms—sometimes with someone else’s voice speaking up for me, sometimes advocating for myself—and I’ve felt as if my concerns weren’t always being heard. It’s one thing to know about health care disparities in theory and another to worry whether a doctor will take you seriously when you say something’s wrong. Now that I’m an adult, navigating appointments solo, that concern hits even harder. This women’s health package gives me hope—offering stories, resources, and insight from those who know what it feels like to be overlooked.

The 5280 Staff’s Favorite Things This Week

🌊 Digital editor Jessica Giles introduced her Texas friends to Clear Creek tubing in Golden—which, as it turns out, is not a lazy river. After multiple wipeouts (including her own at a rapid named the Dishwasher) and lost sunglasses, they regrouped over watermelon sours at the Golden Mill to recover their dignity.

🥃 Creative services director Chelsea Conrad kicked off the weekend with whiskey at State 38 Distilling’s Colorado Day release in Golden; this year’s sipper aged in peach-spiced rum barrels. The next day brought beers and a pup-friendly menu at Tommyknocker Brewery in Idaho Springs. Her dog, Mipha, gives it two paws up.

🍽️ Art director David McKenna celebrated a birthday and finally made it to Englewood’s Osteria Alberico. Highlights included malfadine with meat ragu and a clarified twist on the paper plane cocktail that benefits the Joshua School: delicious and do-good.

⚾️ CEO and publisher Charity Huff watched the Rockies fumble against the Blue Jays at Coors Field—think: botched pop-flys and homers galore. But she scored a solid Helton Burger and Coors Banquet, and with 200-plus burgers sold before first pitch, she wasn’t the only one treating the Rockies as diamond drama on a budget.
