🥐 What’s Editor-in-chief Jessica LaRusso’s New Year’s resolution? Eat more croissants. She made excellent progress on her goal in Breckenridge, where she visited Threefold Bakery on a recommendation from her favorite Denver magazine. She and her crew ordered nearly everything on the menu, with particular reverence reserved for the cinnamon rolls crowned with what she described as “transcendent vanilla-forward cream cheese frosting.”
🏠 Photo editor Charli Ornett kept things close to home with a stroll through Heritage Lakewood, a preserved village of Colorado buildings dating back to the early 1900s. After some spirited negotiations over which building would make the best home, Charli claimed the Estes Park motel cottage—though relinquishing the Art Deco gas station that would have made an excellent art studio wasn’t easy.
🥢 Food editor Mark Antonation upheld his annual New Year’s Day tradition: a full-blown cooking marathon centered around a theme. This year’s focus—dishes rarely (if ever) found on Denver’s menus—sent him on a multimarket shopping spree from H Mart to Ali International Market. The payoff included Persian aush reshteh, Guyanese pepper pot with plait bread, Armenian jingalov hats, Sichuan dry pot cauliflower, and Hawaiian butter mochi.
📖 Marketing specialist Tamara Curry spent the week in celebration as she helped her twin sister, Sandra Ama Ross, with the launch of her children’s book, “You Can Do All Things.” The book draws from her sister’s own childhood struggles with learning to read and highlights how the support of her family and faith helped her persevere and thrive. You can find the book on Amazon, Barnes & Nobles, Apple Books, and Kindle.
